hi everyone,

yes, it's been a while since my last post, but i have to say that i have been working non-stop since then. on school, work, personal life etc etc etc!

but just to catch up for not updating my blog, here's a list of what i did or still doing lately,

finished my bachelor degree on visual communication design (graduated cum laude, praise God! seriously!)

taking the studio thirteen project to another level!

ze boyfie and i rented a place and make it our official office :D

turned 25 last july

working day and night juggling a couple of projects.

learning new things and taking a more challenging projects that are definitely out of my comfort zone! which is a really good thing.

so, that's about it. not much i know, but i have been feeling more than grateful that im standing where i am today. i promise, when i got more free time i'll post more stories and pics and what not.

i'm not so much of a foodie, but when in comes to good food, good restaurant and good service, i'll stick to the same place for quite sometimes.

around 3 weeks ago after getting my hair permed, rolo, my brothers, santi and i decided to try out this new tiny restaurant my brother told me about in kemang, Pasta Basta. we had no idea what their menus (pasta obviously, but what kind of pasta) and price range were. when we stepped in, the place was really small yet really cozy and comfortable. i fell in love instantly. we sat down and asked for the menu. the owner's girlfriend was serving us and told us that Pasta Basta is a single menu restaurant that only serve spaghetti basta (their family's recipe since 1962) in two size, regular and jumbo. we ordered the regular size each.

the pasta was great! i mean really, my family knows good food especially dutch food and pasta (my dad is dutch and used to work at a french restaurant & really good at cooking), so growing up i'm really picky when it comes to food. we always have our own recipe for everything, you name it. so i am a mean judge when it comes to types of food that im really familiar with, but i have to say Pasta Basta's spaghetti was really good, even beats my dad's recipe. i've always loved home cooking, and Pasta Basta's food is definitely tasted like one.

another thing that made me love this place, is the people in it. everyone there really take good care of their customers, they asked simple question like "how's everything?" or chat with us and made us feel welcomed in their restaurant. they even shared their cigarettes to rolo and i, because we were out of cigs. it felt like we were eating at a cousin's house and everyone is family. isn't that a wonderful thing?

Pasta Basta is definitely a great place and it got my full recommendation. seriously, i've been coming there everyday for the last three days :p i can't stop eating them good pasta! :D

impulsivity has been my very dear friends through out the years of my life

doing something so spontaneously can really turn my life downside up :p

just like the recent event when i suddenly feel the massive urge of getting a curly hair!

i act on it that very moment

and voila..

i have curly hair now !!!!

yesterday, my brother's girl, santi asked me whether i want to get my hair perm or not. i thought 'hells yea'! rolo and i first picked up my youngest brother (dado) and went straight to santi's house. her mother is the one that did my hair, she is a pro. whilst twirling my hair with the clipper and the chem, she told me how she first started in the pampering industry. she started in '83, used to have a big salon (trend salon) right across maxie and got a real degree on hairstyling, cosmetics and everything related to it. it was a pleasure hearing her stories while she was doing my hair.

as if the perming wasn't enough trouble for santi's mom, dado managed to say it out loud that he wants to go bald, a second later rolo and i grabbed an old clipper, and shaved dado's hair vigorously. the clipper was really old, so it didnt really work. rolo ended up cutting dado's hair with scissor, acted like he knows what to do and making patches all over dado's head. it was a mess, both in the house and on my brother's head. hahaha. good thing after santi's mom is done dealing with my hair, she shaved dado's hair with a new clipper and saved his day.

it was really really fun getting to know and hanging out with santi's family, my newly extended family. sorry tante for the mess, but thank you for everything :D

anyhoo,

i feel like a new person, a more fun side of me has sprang up!

death is an inevitable cycle of life

unless you want to end up like merryl streep and goldie hawn in the living dead ha ha

yes, when i'm in awkward situations i tend to make a bad joke, sorry

when dealing with deaths, i never know how to react. while normally people have 5 stages of grieves, i only have 2, denial and anger. the passing of my late uncle (brother of my mom) definitely made a big impact in my big family. he was the one who glued our family together (in his own funny ways), especially after the death of my dear grandfather.

i thought i can go into details sharing this story, but turns out i still can't. to picture back to the day he passed makes me feel fragile. i'll tell you how i remember him tho' :D

whenever our family hang out, in a restaurant or in my grandma's house, he would tell the same old story but it still cracks us up, we never grow tired of it. he has a gift of telling a story and making jokes. and he's the kind of 'tell it like it is' guy, so when we have some annoying family members, he always backed us up and made fun of them. aside from his jokes and stories, he had talents for music. he can't play any instruments, but he had an ear for a good sound. sound engineer, producer, song writer he was it. one of my favorite songs that he made is 'gelora asmara', definitely one of his best works.

i also remember how he was really protective of his family. this one time, my unc', auntie (his wife) and i went out to buy a handphone together. while i was looking at some booth my auntie stood behind me and my uncle next to her. out of nowhere this rude guy carrying a big box cut his way through the line, and the box knock into my auntie's face. my unc' asked the guy to apologize, but he blamed my auntie for getting in his way (stupid idiot). without any warning, my unc' landed a jab on his face and told the the guy to apologize. the guy apologized and ran away. people were clapping their hands and i thought 'wow, how cool was that! he just smack that guy to defend his wife!', it was awesome :p

i'm happy that i have good memories of him, some bad ones too, but it just made the good memories even better :D

i passed my first exam a week ago (thank you for the wishes dear people), but it just means that i have to have a grandeur prep for the next exam. since my last exam i've been letting my self loose for a week, so that i wont go cuckoo handling all my school shits. anyhoo, i downloaded a bunch of big fish games and been playing it all week. it's rather therapeutic than entertaining, i love it.

aside from playing games, i discover a new spot to hang out and enjoy the weather (when it's not raining of course) in the house. it's actually a patio or more like a veranda or porch..anyway, it's divine! rolo and i have been hanging out there taking a drag, talking or even sit in comfortable silences :)

well that's about it from me for now, i know this wasn't much of an exciting story and whatnot, but i just miss writing and sharing my stories with you, that i just had to do this one ;p

hello hello

how are you all been doing?

I'm sorry if i haven't been writing much for the last two weeks..

I am currently in the process of preparing my final project and papers for the completion of my study and getting my B.A. :D

on monday i will face the first of the three exams (a concept exam, a visual exam and final exam) we're required to get through in order to get our degree. i cant even describe how nervous, restless and anxious i am facing the first exam and entering my uni on monday with a formal office-like attire (which i think is uncalled for)..

i will get the first turn to present my concept in front of three judgmental lecturer (another reason to hate mondays)!

i feel like i'm the lab rat, i'm a 100% sure they're still pumped up to shower me with questions to break me. i hate being the first ever student to do a presentation!! i don't know what to expect, i don't know the drill, i don't know how high or low the bar is set to!

but on the other hand, i feel challenged because i have stayed up so many nights preparing my presentation with the support and help of Rolo, of course. so i pretty much know my project inside and out. i'm just gonna do the best i can. i can feel it in my guts when i step my foot in the exam room, it's going to be that 'here goes nothing' moment!!

do wish me the biggest luck you can and pray for me to get through not only the first exam on monday, but all of the exams for the completion of my study.

been thinking on renovating our studio for awhile, it's too plain and unorganized (as you may've seen in my previous post). my mother is an interior designer with a crafty hands, so i think i got my fascination for interiors from her. i got all sort of things planned and sketched on my moleskine for the studio. i'll share it with you once i got my moodboard done :)

i found this image whilst looking for some inspiration for the studio revamping. im gonna DIY the bejebus out of my spoons and hang it on the wall as a decoration, just like this :D

after staying in our room for the whole weekend, last night Rolo and I spontaneously decided to go to a bar. had a double date with our good friends tania & ady, drank our boredom away. we had pints and pints of beer + a shot of tequila. NEVER mixed beer with spirits! long story short, i cant recall pretty much most of what happened last night. and to top it all, a massive hang over today! it was really nice of Rolo to took care of me for the whole day :* we went out on an afternoon tea for two and ate croissants with butter. the best hangover cure ever :D

we spent the rest of our tuesday night at Rolo's store.

playing hookie on a monday is definitely the supreme thing to do in the history of man kind. yes, today i have all the time in the world to just lay around in bed and watch Playhouse Disney! but i used those free time to work on a project instead (been staring at Rolo's laptop for 8hrs). a project, that hopefully, Rolo and I can complete (wish us tons of luck). 'what project?' you may asked? well..that, my friend, is another story :p I do sometimes believe in the superstitious world and don't want to jinx it..

anyhoo..

as I seat uncomfortably on this wobbly chair at our studio, I found my self doodling on my red moleskine with my 'thomas&friends' pencil, a particular recipe (meatball subs) i used to make for Rolo. thought i'll share it with you guys, if you can't really see what i'm drawing and want to try the recipe out, just let me know. i will email the recipe for you :D

having drinks and senseless convo at dehooi (a bar) lead us to get a tad bit flirty, exchange Blackberry Messenger PIN (wish that i could say we changed numbers, but that would be a lie ahahaha) and write nonsense with markers in our hands and clothes :p

today is lunar new year (chinese new year), so for those of you who celebrate, gong xi gong xi :)

last night, as i was enjoying my night of watching cartoons and snacking, a friend of mine (dindie) send me a link on this amazing illustrator through twitter. dindie is one of my favorite blogger, illustrator and all around creative gal! she got this new project on chronicling her daily happenings through drawings, i love it. it turns out that the link she gave me was the inspiratory blog that made her do that daily drawings. i have to say that seeing dindie's blog and the inspiratory blog really got my motor running. i'm affected by all the cuteness and naiveness of making a 'daily drawing', i'm inspired to do so.

but,

you know me, i'm not good at drawing, i'm okay at sketching but awful at drawing and illustrating. so as i prepare my self to bed, i kept thinking that at least i should practice my drawing skill or it might left me forever.

this morning, when i wake up, i have this urge of doing something productive (i think i still have some inspiration left-over from last night), i got out of bed and turn our room upside down looking for some drawing papers, pencils, brushes, watercolor set and a palette. i found everything but my watercolor set. oh noooo! i have this habit of having to have everything in perfect order before i do something or i might lose the spirit (im such a baby, i know). being the wonderful boyfriend that he is, Rolo gave me his poster color set so i can start drawing (i love you).

i was planning on making a self portrait, but i just cant draw my self. so i just start sketching and let the pencil take over. i'm a little tired of writing :p why don't i just let my pictures do the talking.

seated cornered at a table in a particular coffee place, i cant help but let myself sinked deep in my own thoughts. thinking about everything that has been going on in my life, and what effect it has on me. to tell you the truth, rather than having memories on something sublime i'm realizing that i'm letting my self drown in a really dark place, drowning in my own paranoia towards life and experiencing sequences of despair that is eating my spirit one tiny bits at a time. pms? bad day? insufficient time to rest? being a regular girl? who knows.

the trigger that set off this unappealing thoughts is just a simple matter. when you have too much information (that is actually twaddle), especially when it's out dated informations, it will do no good for you but mess with your mind.

in this day and age, information is so easy to come by without even putting any effort to get it. facebook, twitter, myspace and so many other platform of communication offer a senseless information when no one ask for it or even search it in particular. i'm not blaming these sites for my troubles, i just hate it, that i let my self caught up in it.

it's ridiculous.

when i reach the point where i cant take it anymore, i needed someone to talk to, someone to interact with. i found no one. i feel alone, aloof, distant. in a more common phrase used by society, i'm drowning in self pity.

even more ridiculous.

with the last shreds of good spirit, i pull my self together and talk my self into some good sense and try to see the bigger picture in my life. it is crucial to filter what comes into your brain. be fussy when it comes to it. i try to channel some positive energy from a number of competent articles, and my cousins blog, somehow their blogs amuse me and (the most important of all) lifted my spirit back.

funny thing life is,

when you know what's good for you and proceed with it,

when you what's bad for you and pass over it,

when you know that's it is expected for human to make mistakes,

when you can learn from your mistake,

when you can get back on your feet after a fall,

when you can forgive others for their mistakes,

when you can forgive yourself for your own,

when you can appreciate your self,

when you can appreciate others,

and

when you are thankful for what you have,

then you can feel alive.

just by finding the definition for it, i manage to look at a brighter side of it. a simple grasp of life, that can give you a peace of mind and gain back your sanity.

life is not the goal, it's the journey.

take it easy and enjoy the ride.

another MassiveWhat party!

Last saturday (January 22nd, 2011) Mongo Disco flew all the way from San Fransisco to party with us at Malt. Personally i think MassiveWhat has delivered yet another great party, well of course with a little speed bump on the way (Malt isn't exactly an easy spot to find). MassiveWhat's usual line up Ari, Swarsaktya, Angga and Muula together with Belda and Sebastian (Mongo Disko) managed to let the crowd break loose. The sound is better than the ones in their previous events, having a big awesome space and air con are also making things easier, not that i have any complaints for prior event :p. Good friends, new friends or even strangers packed the place until 4 (in the morning), danced their heart out with a ~~good~~ great two hours set from Mongo Disko (originally planned to play one and a half hour).

another great reason why i love going to MassiveWhat event is that they don't have events regularly, im not one that can party every weekend. i only party when i feel like it or when Rolo told me that there's a really good DJ in town, so seeing MassiveWhat event pattern, plus the really good combination of music, cheap booze, nice people and fun (the perfect combination in having a party, one might say), i cant help but always come to their event :p It's like they knew the principle of 'quality over quantity'

i had a blast.

Sinusitis, i hate you

oh well, i'll get better soon, i can feel it!

whilst staying in Rolo's room helpless, i found my self always looking for something to do. browsing, reading, sketching, taking pictures, the occasional mumbling and out of tune singing. i've done it all. i am not one that can enjoy the quite time of being with one self, well, i actually can, but only when i'm not sick. so to cater to my sanity in this crazy time, i doodled a short story (more like a motivational story) i found at Jerry's tumblr. i gotta say it has helped me with my boredom. :D

be warned that i'm not good at drawing!

having an obsession of grabbing images for ideas from the web has made my desktop cluttered with random things and im having a hard time finding files or images. what i always do is, i pick all the images on my desktop and drag it all to a folder. when i start grabbing more images at another time, i make another new folder and put all of the new images in it. then, folders are cluttered in my desktop, without my knowing of which was which. ended up with not knowing where to look for saved references for my ideas. am i the only one who's dealing with this problem? maybe yes, :p

but now, i have to worry no more. Now, we have PINTEREST, a new social catalog service. Think of it more like a virtual pin board. It will help you organize and categorize, whatever images you used to have cluttering on your desktop. I even use it for my work and it helps big time! So if you're interested, please join in. since last saturday i haven't been feeling great and now i got a chronic flu..i have to stay in bed if i want to go to campus tomorrow..so to kill time, i took pictures of what i bought, when i went to the art store yesterday with Rolo and my best friend Tontey..i'm taking painting classes at campus this semester..i know it's gonna take so much of my time and might get in the way of my doing the final project, but i think it's gonna be therapeutic..oh well, we'll just see what happen on june :D

p.s. the cookbook picture in my previous post is the inspiration for the art supplies picture..isn't the cookbook inspiring :))) must have

without any real skill at cooking, i always try to look up any recipes online. missing ingredients, wrong measurement, substituting unavailable ingredients are the things i have to deal with when i'm cooking. seeing the tutorial videos and picture doesn't really help me improve my cooking skill. looking at these books really give me the impression that cooking is not that hard after all (i'm pretty sure its still hard). through interesting picture and styling they led us to believe that we too can make Tagliatelle without setting a bomb in our kitchen. I probably will still have a hard time cooking, but having a guidebook this dope will definitely make it easier for me to cope with it :) IKEA 'Homemade is Best' and Jane Hornby 'What to Cook & How to Cook It' are definitely a must have cookbook.

i've been crashing at Rolo's house for quite awhile now..not only that i invade his personal space and redecorate a few small things, regardless of how he truly feels (he's fine by it, i hope :p) i even make my own little work space in his studio :p (since we're working together anyway)

studio13 creative house, a little creative company Rolo and i owned, got the chance to create a window display for Kle, a noted fashion label in Jakarta, for their store in Level One, Grand Indonesia. Kleting, the owner of Kle came up with the idea of using papers because she only had a small budget for the display.

having only four days -without concept and supplies, not to mention the final exams and Rolo's store event- doesnt look good for this project. my boyfriend and i stayed up all night for a couple of nights, with only papers, scissors, cutters, glue and cans of red bull, and managed to get it done on time :D

we came up with the concept of paper forest portraying the christmas trees, with a long folded paper as the snow and a gigantic red banner for the greetings. the excitement when we first got this project is what saved our asses and it turned out great.

happy new year fellas!

so, how was everyone's new year's eve party?

my new year's eve pretty much rocked for my level of excitement. i'm never the type of person that has to spend one's NYE with a fancy event in a fancy place. as long as i'm spending it with the people that matters to me, it's all good :)

without any foolproof plans for NYE, my cousin, ze boyfriend and i was just letting the last day of 2010, kind of take us wherever it wanted us to go. our main rule for the night was to spend as little money as we can, because we're short on money *big grin*. fortunately, there was a party at CASA which giving their guests a free flow from 10 pm to midnight. being broke kind of took us to CASA, giving the circumstances that they're handing out free drinks so we thought it's gonna be jammed with people, we came early at 9 pm. but little that we know, we have to make a reservation for a table first, even though there were only 6 people at CASA and plenty of tables to share, we cant be seated. im not gonna spend the last day of 2010 standing around in a restaurant.

we took off and drove around kemang. being the 'to go' spot that kemang is, we got stuck in traffic for almost an hour, then we decided we're just gonna go to POSTE in kuningan. Rolo's friend Harvy is working as the NYE guest DJ there, his girl, Anggi was there too. It was around 10 pm when we got there, it wasn't too crowded so we had a nice chat, drank beers and joked around. when the ball dropped, a congratulatory was in order, kissed Rolo, wished everyone a happy new year, my dad called, my cousin wished my dad 'happy birthday' instead of 'new year' because he got wasted :D

after finishing his duties, Harvy and Anggi took us to small house party in Capital's office. we had to make a little detour first and take my cousin home. at the party, we had so much fun that we didn't realized that its morning already. we got home at 9am and spent the rest of the first day of 2011, sleeping.

that's pretty much it.

no one died, no one made a fool of one's self.

it was just simple, fun and personal ways to spend it.

i loved how not having plans can sometimes gave you the surprises that you never hoped before.

yesterday i went to the biggest rock festival in Jakarta, so to speak. it's no woodstock or coachella or lollapalooza, but for a rock festival, Java Rockin' Land (JRL) is getting there..its a start.

my siblings, boyfie and i went there on the last day of the festival to see Seringai and Wolfmother performing. the gate opened at 3pm and we were there from 1pm, that's because we (well maybe i) want to get the best seat for both Seringai and Wolfmother concert :p but we got it anyways! got offered to come on stage by Seringai, front row at Wolfmother concert (they did perform like it was their own concert! epiiic) and threw in some jabs and uppercut at a teenager who kicked my face during his amateur crowd surfing (police were involved). it was a true rock and roll festival when Wolfmother starts.

it was a day with 99 in the percentage of perfection. at the seringai show the sun was super hot and i wore this big native american headpiece. in the middle of their performance i was about to leave and find a spot under some tree, when i heard Arian (the vocalist) shouted that i was the best costume of the day and offered me to come on stage with him. i declined cause i was about to faint, which i kind of regret now lol, but he managed to joke about it and said that he can understand if my boyfriend wont let me hahaha..after that some guy come up to me with this video camera and microphone and interviewed me and rolo and asked us to say "i support one day on earth" (i have no idea what it means hahahaha). suddenly my vision got blurry and i saw a lot of white, just like an over exposed picture. i was dehydrated and almost lose consciousness. rolo managed to get me some water and i was back on my feet.

while we waited for the vines and wolfmother, we went to the camping ground. the tent was so neatly placed it felt like im back in my highschool camping trip, and its a bad thing. i mean, come on, a rock festival should be messy and muddy :) and we should be allowed to bring our own water! if you guys wont let us bring our own drinks at least give us free water so we wont get dehydrated!

around 5.30pm the vines started performing, to be honest they wasnt my priority for JRL performances, so after their second song, rolo, his cousin and i went to the wolfmother stage and successfully earned a spot in the front row! after we waited for almost an hour, this guy came out (i think it was their stage manager or something) and screamed "WOLFMOTHER", the band members came out and start the show with 'Dimension'. They played 12 of their songs, The Doors' 'Rider on the Storm' and The Who's 'Baba O Reily'. 'Joker and the Thief' was played for their last song and it was EPIIIIIIIC!!! They're like the led zeppelin of our generation, and Andrew Stockdale is our generation's Robert Plant! Someone was crowd surfing from the back and his foot kicked me on the back of my head right to my neck and cheek. I was furious and unfortunately for him, people put him down right behind me. i turned around and threw in those jabs and uppercut i told you earlier. He tried to get away but i grabbed his hair and drag him to my spot, Rolo threw a punch and the police grabbed him from the other side of the barricade with just one hand. The police took him to custody! It made me furious but it was awesome, it felt like a true rock n' roll concert.

as for the 1% that wreck my perfection, on the way home we got pull over by the police for making the wrong turn. we wasn't familiar with the area and end up paying the IDR 200.000 (US$20) fine. but it ain't gonna wreck our day! no sir-e! it was the best concert so far.

i cant wait for next year line ups! woohooooo!

it was roughly two weeks ago when i promised my self that i will go to Simply Red Farewell Tour with any ways possible in Singapore. From saving money to finding the lowest fare plane tickets to get me there.

it finally happened. a few days ago, carrying only my purse and my camera, my boyfriend and i travelled light to Singapore to keep the promise i made to my self. i cant locate my memory on how singapore is since my last visit many years ago..and by many i mean 14 years ago! so i was super excited for this trip, not only that im going to see the concert but this is also my long awaited getaway and my first trip with my boyfriend.

as we arrived, my very good friend Bolor had already waiting for us. we took the train and run around town, not exactly all around, we went to orchard to buy the simply red tickets and grabbed a bite to eat. then we went to Bolor's at robertson and catch a little rest needed.

around 7.30pm we took a cab and head to kallang indoor stadium for the concert. i met my uncle there and managed to squeezed $50 from him :p. the concert was boring at first because everyone is sitting down but half way to the end everyone started to stand up and dance, it was magical. im glad i can see their final show in asia even though i have to catch them at singapore :D

after the concert Bolor, rolo and i went to clarke quay to meet some friends and head to Hooters for a really late dinner and Home Club to drink some beers and chat. It was a fun night, i just love it when my boyfriend can connect and have a fun conversation with my friends.

the next day, we woke up at noon and there were so little time left for us to enjoy singapore. so we head back to orchard with bolor and tata, to have a taste of the famous Bonchon Crispy Chicken. It was divine! Bonchon got the best chicken i've ever eaten in my life! Since we already in mall, my boyfriend and i shopped a little and head to the airport right away.

so there you go, my 24-hour getaway to singapore with the boyfie. short but memorable. and for Bolor you're voted as the best tour guide for singapore region and also the best friend ever for taking us around singapore and actually going to the concert even though you only know 3 of all simply red songs :D

Last night my sister, my boyfriend and I went to a really cool exhibition in Dharmawangsa Square, Jakarta. It was an exhibition displaying the works of Li Hui, 33 year old artist from china.

When i first set foot in the gallery, i was a tad bit confused, because it was just an empty space with two large access (that confused me which was the entry gate and exit gate) displaying only a few frame of some technical drawing and a brief story on the artist Li Hui. So i approached what looks to be a receptionist there and ask where the exhibition actually is. He politely asked us to write in the guest book then explained that he will escort us to the exhibition on the upper floors.

We took the stairs to the first floor. When we get there, the excitement quadrupled. It was completely dark and there were this objects made out of acrylic or glass or plastic (im afraid to touch it :p) with blue lights shinning through it.

Once we done exploring the first floor, the usher took us to the second floor. The elevator door opened and we saw this beaming red lasers forming a wall making an illusion of a hall. We walked through the lasers and the usher took us to the next room that displayed another illusion made by green lasers. It looked like jail bars and when we stand in the middle of the room, the lights change position to the corner of the room, giving us the illusion that it moves.

The usher took us to the elevator and took us to the third floor. The elevator door opened, and there it was, my favorite piece from the whole exhibition. A ship that is fully attached on the front, and as it gets farther it got destroyed. This piece is hanged so we can really see the structure and where the wreck start. It creates a beautiful destruction that somehow has its own order and grid. It was a striking beauty.

We went to another floor, the fourth floor and there was this big arrow and a ship transformed into a piece hanged on the wall right above the elevator door. From this floor we can look down and see the ship wreckage on the third floor. It was the last floor of the exhibition.

It was the best exhibition i ever attended to. You should try it yourself and i guarantee it will inspire you. Here are the details of the exhibition:

i haven't slept when i wrote this and it was 5.34am when i finished writing, so please excuse my sloppy writings

i was about to write a really romantic (well maybe more cheesy than romantic) post for my boyfriend when he 'accidentally' read the draft..so i'm making this new post..

exactly a year ago my boyfriend, ovan and I started dating, so today is actually our first anniversary as a couple. yes, i've been mentioning his name a couple of time in my past posts, well i mentioned him a lot, i always refer him as rolo in my blog. i don't know why i call him that, which i never do in real life. it just sounded wicked and italian. ahaha ok i might just wrote a lie there, i actually remember why i called him that. i'm just not gonna tell you cause you might vomit if you hear the whole story on that nickname. let's just settle at its his name and a character from a movie i love merged together ;p

before you continue reading this, i should warn you that if you are not in your spare time just skip to the part after the triple dash ( --- ) to read the summary..im going to talk non sense (stupid details that you might don't get because my lack of writing skill to try and explain something in words) for a while.. :p

so yeah, a year ago..

it was actually a year and a week ago when i first met him. it wasn't a rendezvous or some sort. we just somehow met that sunny afternoon in a restaurant near our campus. i was hanging out with my friends when this guy just sit next to me and join the conversation without even introducing himself. it turned out that everyone in that table except me is friends with him. but we kept on talking about life and being 23 and how hard school is and whatnot, suddenly one of my friend realized that this guy and i didn't know each other. so he introduced ovan to me. we continued the conversation and got too invested in it. it was getting dark, my friend and i have to meet my best friend in a local bar in an hour. so, i just asked everybody in the table to join us, including ovan and continue the convo at the bar. we ended up going there with ovan's car.

as we arrived at the bar, my best friend, kakek already booked us a table and we just start ordering drinks and enjoying our monday night casual drinking conversation. two hours flew, kakek had to leave and right before he left he asked me about this guy, ovan. kakek said something like 'i think..i think that ovan guy is making his move on you'. i just thought he was being a tad bit big brotherly protective like he always do, so i didn't really think it was a big deal. after a while i do realized ovan is really giving me this eye contacts and whatnot but i just thought it was the big amount of alcohol acting up :p

it was around 11pm when we finally decided to go home and call it a day. ovan had to take the three of us home cause we didn't really have a ride home. so he took kis home first and then acong. we stayed awhile at acong's, ovan and i ended up flirting and talking to each other without even recognizing that there was acong in the room, i mean it was his room. i can assure you he was busy with his own stuff tho..hehe sorry cong :p. so after a while ovan took me home. i didn't remember exactly what happened, i mean we were crazy drunk, i did remember that he asked me to be his girlfriend. i was like, hold your horses, buddy! you know what..i felt the somewhat connected to him, but i just don't want to rush things. so i told him to sleep on it and sober up. ahaha i was so shocked i sobered up that very second.

the next day he asked me the same question, i just told him we don't know each other, but did get to know each other a little more with the constant text messages and blackberry messenger. so it still wasn't the right time. the next day after that he asked me the same question and i gave him the same answer. he kept doing that and wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. until a week after that i finally agreed and made him promise to take things slow.

it was all new to me. i've never been that 'go-for-it' person my whole life, and with him i just went for it. i have to say that it was a really rocky first couple of months. as we go, we learn more about each other and actually try to understand each other. it got us this far :)

yea we got into scary fights, had enough of each other's craziness, the dramas and even attempted a break up a couple of times, but relationships are frickin' hard! whenever we feel like we're making sacrifices for our partner, they're actually thinking the same thing too. every time we think who loves who the most, guess what..they're thinking it too. so as i go on with this relationship, i learn more about him, about me, about us and about other people, even more than i could think of.

ovan as person isn't exactly the perfect guy in the whole world.

no one is.

perfect shouldn't even be in the human dictionary.

perfect is just a term used in marketing to attract people.

but he is the guy that restore my faith in so many things by believing in what he's doing and taking care of me, even at my lowest low :)

thank you for everything ovan, i'm really grateful we're in this together :)

The Dysfunctional Family

let's recap to 2007..the year that my mom and my step dad decided to go their separate ways..my step dad whom i saw as my own dad left the house and live elsewhere..my mom whom i thought will stick around and face the problem with her remaining family, took off without telling us (me, my sister and my two brothers) to bali and never comeback until this day..i'm sure they have their reasons, and i wont even start to understand their reason because, well, i'm not them, therefore i wouldn't know what they really are feeling..

it's really hard for me to actually accept everything that's been happening to my family..even though i might act all tough and strong, and get mad or get into arguments with my family, i am actually just a girl that wants her family back..but i know its not happening..so yea..its pretty hard to digest..but i will always have a soft spot for mi familia, despite all of my bitching and sarcastic comments..i love you guys..this abnormality in my family is what makes me who i am today..so thank you family.. :)

So last night was the opening of Jakarta's newest store,

my boyfriend and i (under our company 'Studio13 Creative House') got the chance to be in the project,

+ renovating the store +

+ designing the new store +

+ branding +

we had our ups and downs while getting the job done

it was work after all, but i cant deny that i had so much fun doing it :)

we learned a lot from this project as a company and as individuals

i have to admit, working with your boyfriend, family and/or friends can be really tricky

but seeing the end result always paid off for the obstacles we got through :p

for those of you who did came to the opening night of voila store, i thank you for participating in it. hope you had fun as much as we do making it :)

my boyfriend have been downloading a bunch of classic movies, so far we have only watch one movie because of our crazy schedule (work, school, work, projects, work, hobbies and more work). nevertheless, we always try to spend some quality time and now classic movie is some-what our new thing :p

a few days ago he asked me to watch 'High Society' with him. at first i was thinking, what i hate from classic movies is the script. it's to long and going in circles for my taste. well, maybe thats because my first encounter with a classic movie is sinatra's ocean's eleven. but on the contrary, 'High Society' was so awe-inspiring. I have to say i love grace kelly, sinatra and crosby in that movie, the presence of louis armstrong for the soundtrack is a divine addition of the movie.

im definitely going to watch more inspiring classic movies

kodak disposable camera..i love love love it!

i was in my first grade when i was first introduced to camera by the most influential figure in my life, my grandfather. he gave me his Canon EF SLR with 50mm lens attached to it. i still have it until this day, after 17 years since he first gave it to me. he taught me how to use it, no matter how much rolls and rolls of film i wasted. after a few rolls i finally got the hang of using a manual SLR. that was the moment i fell in love with manual camera and film rolls.

it was a really personal, procedural and exciting experience. yea, before DSLR even prevail, we use films to take pictures. so we cant just use a whole film roll without knowing how to set everything to make a good picture. the beauty of actually be in a process of creating beautiful photos. its priceless. beside that, it was the remarkable history behind that exact camera what makes me love it even more. i've heard stories of how my grandfather bought the camera when he lived in japan, used it to take most of the family pictures around the 70's (if i'm not mistaken), and how he lend it to my mother to let her took part in a photo competition and she actually won it (she took a freeze frame of a falling leaf with some mountain in japan as the blurry background). to have that historical camera in my hands is what makes me really appreciate manual cameras and film rolls.

so anyways, these are the latest pictures i captured in my film rolls using a kodak disposable camera i bought when i was on my vacation. not an actual manual SLR and its pretty automatic, but still satisfying my love for film rolls :p

is the personification of the power that destroys life

i've always have this dissenting feeling when it comes to visiting a funeral. it always bring back the memory of losing someone really dear in my family. today however, i went along with my boyfriend to a funeral, a friend's mother died, just this morning. it was desolately unbearable. the faces of the family especially our friend was somehow tagged with emptiness, even though they actually smiled. it's really hard to face the truth of losing someone close to you. the feeling of having to get out from your regular activities with them is actually what will be missed. but overtime we will some how (not forget but) think less of them and just preserve their valuable memories deep in our heart.

death is natural. it is terribly hard to cope with, but it is natural.

all you have to do is power through,

The Sunprint Kit

i went to sidney last month and i had the chance to go a little far from the city and went to leura mall. when i know im going to leura mall, the first thing that crossed my mind was 'oh no, am i really going to a mall when im on a vakantie', but when i arrived there, leura mall is actually a street. a really cool street. there are a lot of cool shops in the main streets, and the ambience it gives away is really laid back and brisk (it was winter ahahaha). so as i stroll around the main street, i found this really cool shop, a toy shop. the minute i stepped foot on that shop, went mad. i just want to take everything home! there was this ceramic tea set and vintage toy car, cute notebooks, ladybug wallet, costumes, cute stationary and everything awesome. the toys they sell even distracted me from taking a picture of the shop. but trust me, its really beautiful, i can practically live there with all the toys and my imaginations.

it took me so long to pick a toy i really want, i already have to go back to the city. when i know the group was about to leave me, i just grabbed a random item and pay for it. as i walked to the bus, i opened the packaging (which serves it function, super simple, and super adorable) and realized i bought the sunprint kit. i didnt have enough time there, i really wanted to buy everything and take it home with me, but the one i got is a really interesting kit, we can make a fun photographic type prints using only sun and water. it was actually a project developed by The Regents, University of California.

i hope i can go back there and buy that ceramic tea set i fell in love with so deeply :p

Everyone, meet my trusty friend, MY MOLESKINE

I have this ridiculous attachment to my moleskine, if i don't have it, i might lose my will to work. Seriously. I've been making up excuses to procrastinate my work because i haven't know it whereabouts for a few days. But since i found it this morning under stacks and stacks of jeans in my room, my will to work suddenly re-appears, so yeay!

I basically write everything in it, from my class notes, sketches, ideas, random doodles and it also serves the purpose of a phonebook ( since i'm to lazy to tap on either of my blackberry or iphone to save someone's number ). I pour all of my thoughts in it, from random, important to silly thoughts. That's why sometimes i can go crazy and just shut my whole operation when i cant locate my moleskine. The idea of losing it isn't going to portray a pretty picture.

My boyfriend just lost his, and it's a bummer because we bought it together at the beginning of our relationship, it has my writings too. I hope he just misplaced it and not actually lost it.

im back from my vakantie people :)

deadlines and whatnot awaits!

after strolling around the world wide web for my work, i've decide that im just gonna make sometime to write about my vakantie. i went on an 8-day trip to australia this year. it might be summer in the other parts of the world, but on july its winter for the land down under.

my flight route was jakarta-singapore-melbourne. it was a pretty long 9-hour flight, just so you know i haven't travel that many hours in sometime. so, cramps and boredom was my very best friend on that flight. but luckily my airline provided me some entertainment which i spent hours and hours watching it. good thing it was my favorite shows "how i meet your mother".

the moment i landed in melbourne, i can just feel a big difference in the air. i've been exposed to too many pollution in jakarta, it is literally a change in the air and i loved it. i remember it vaguely when i walk out the airport front door, it's..i cant even describe it with words..ok ok im not making any sense, but i just love that feeling of facing new things in front of me. after i got to my hotel, i hit the city alone without any fear of getting lost and whatnot, i was in my 'ready-to-face-the-world' mode. i gotta say i fell in love with the city instantly. if i have to write my whole experience in australia, i could make a book, three whole chapter on melbourne alone ahaha..but my trip got the complete package of fun, crazy, drama and everything else you can think of..

to summarize, i just realized these couple of things on traveling abroad..

- read the local paper

- have a walk without having any specific place to go to

- bring your camera

- talk to the locals

- buy a map

- use local public transportation

- watch at least an hour of local tv channel

by doing so i found so many things, new things that somehow got stuck in my head like layers of glue and changed my whole perspective. i hope you have an awesome vakantie too.

It was also the boyfriend birthday when the clock striked 12 that night. My friends and I plotted a surprise celebration for him, the guys from MassiveWhat and the DJs also helped! It was an awesome party!

oh yea and they used UV light for the lights, everything white and neon glows! LOVE IT

the last time i blog was roughly two weeks ago, and to tell you the truth, a lot has happened. should i pour all of my stories in this blog? why not. but it's going to be one pretty long post.

the story of two aggravating character in two separate event

chapter I

i was in a trip to my supplier's place when the news hit me. someone is claiming Vision Mission Jeans (a brand that my four good friends and i conceived in 2008) is owned by this particular person (let's just refer to him as jerk no.1 through out this chapter).

Our IT guy Rizmedh, the one that developed the script and whatnot of our website, found a blog. it turned out to be jerk no.1's blog. in it Rizmedh found a blog content that stated that jerk no.1 owns the whole Vision Mission Jeans brand and he handles all the production, design and marketing division. Knowing that it's a lie, Rizmedh told us about his discovery.

After we check the blog out, we found a new troubling fact. Jerk no.1 stated his full name and that name is not new to us. We actually in the same circle of friends. One of us even have his complete contact number. I add jerk no.1 BB pin and asked him whether its him or not that own that blog. He told me it wasn't him. It was his friend's he said because he went to the same class with a guy he doesn't really know with the same exact full name, and he also told us that,the blog is a school project. He offered me to help find this guy and the contact number because he felt like it was his name that's on the line because they share the same name. So, I said okay.

In just 15 minutes, he was able to give me a number of this guy that according to him is the guy who made the blog. I called that number and I was ready to unleash my wrath to this guy. But then i think to my self just a few second before the guy pick up, how can jerk no.1 get this number so fast, how can he be so sure that this is the guy who made the blog. Someone picks up on the other side, i asked whether this is him and he owns Vision Mission Jeans. He said yes, and i explained the situation that we found his blog that stated a false information and i asked him to delete it. He said sorry and promised to take it down. I was really diplomatic and didn't use any high-pitched tone whatsoever. The call ended.

Jerk no.1 called not so long after that, he asked me how did it go and i said what happened. He said he was relieved that we could finally put an end to this disastrous event. Little that he know, my fellow colleagues and I, questioned everything that Jerk no.1 has said during this situation. Behind his back we played detective and found out that he's actually the guy who stole our work. I just got to make him admit the whole thing.

Long story short, i terrorized him the next morning and he admitted it. Later that night, we set up a meeting to solve the whole thing. It went well and we got a legal confession letter from him, so he cant mess around with us. We just hope he'll learn his lesson!

Okay, this is a really long post!

I still have the second chapter of another jerk, called Jerk no.2.

But i'll save that for another time.

The moral of this story are:

Don't do stupid things that you're not supposed to do,

because it will come back and bite you in your sorry ass.

i've noticed that i haven't post a single story about my personal life lately,

but what you're seeing here is actually what i'm experiencing in life, daily.

you could say that it's a blog for all of the things that inspire me.

i'm not gonna tell you what has happened or is happening, in my life in details through this blog.

but you know every once in a while i will post something really personal.

like maybe in this post..

(rolo, im sorry but i have to share this with people, thats why i have a blog..to share.. :) )

last night, in an impromptu night drive,

my boyfriend and i, share something really interesting (well, at least interesting for me).

i don't remember how we got into that conversation,

but i remember beers were involved.

(im too scared to ask him something like this if im not under the influence of alcohol..lol)

so yeah, i asked him "were you always this grumpy or emotional to all your ex-es?"

i was so scared to see his reaction, but he gave me a really interesting answer.

he was led to believe that boys should treat their girls like princesses.

so he used to treat his first few ex-es like that.

but what happened? his first few ex-es stepped all over him.

and he became more or less bitter.

then he changed to this alpha male with a huge ego,

and handled a relationship like a dictator.

well i might exaggerate a tad bit.

but he changed 180˚ from what he used to be.

in the end it didn't do much for him.

until he finally went through a couple of relationships,

and he found that it is really important for a man in a relationship,

to wear the pants, otherwise girls will step all over you.

but it is also important to see your partner in the same level,

so she will feel appreciated.

im glad he explained it to me in a form of his life stories, his journey

and not just a simple yes or no.

i used to be that girl that stepped all over boys cause i don't want my feeling to get hurt.

it's hard for me even to admit it.

but after a few runs of the lap, i've started to realize that,

it's not ok, to dominate a relationship cause you don't want to get your feeling hurt.

my relationship with my boyfriend now,

hmm how do i put this..

i'd like to think we're in our best level for this moment.

it's not about the sacrifices we want to make,

but it's about the compromises we are willing to take.

we don't really use the word 'sacrifice' in our relationship.

sacrificing something means you let go of your values for someone else.

you shouldn't!

well, i'm just glad that after a rocky start,

i'm proud to say that we are making a progress and in a way better state now.

i feel really comfortable sharing my thoughts openly with him,

with or without the presence of beer or alcohol :) lol.

boy, i hope i'm not just talking a load shit of nonsense,

just cause i got caught in a moment.

i'm in a cafe and sade's songs are being played through the speakers.

you know how sade's songs can make you feel.

ian curtis

my boyfriend is an architecture major student. yesterday he got this assignment to make a model of a memorial place (or was it a house..i forgot sorry :p) inspired by an influential figure or a role model. he chose ian curtis.

ian curtis, the late lead singer of joy division, was a precocious lad for poetry since a young age. he looked up to David Bowie, Velvet Underground and Iggy Pop as his personal heroes. He got married at the age of nineteen, work in a civil service and gone through so many failed attempts at starting a band. Finally in the late 70s his band put a big blimp on everyone's radar. The marriage failed, epilepsy took his health away and depression stroked. on the verge of their american tour, he hanged himself after a night spent listening to Bowie's "the Idiot" and watching "Stroszek". sad.

but nevertheless, he became a legend not only with his music but also with his style. i'm interested on how people depicts him as this vulnerable and yet a hostile man, how he wore his clothes, shirts with pockets on both breast, a simple suit pants and shoes, with sometimes the occasionally worn trench coat. his signature style was the coat with the collar turned up. what he wore, was basics. don't you just love basics? i know i do. never gets old. his style was (to quote tfs) nothing if not utilitarian.

that's a brief story on ian curtis. my boyfriend chose a really interesting subject, that i just have to do a little research on ian curtis. i can't wait to see his model, i know for sure it's going to be awesome.

All I really need to know about how to live, what to do and how to be

I learned in kindergarten

Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain,

but there in the sand pile at school

These are the things I learned:

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.
And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.

And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out in the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

i'm was sitting alone in this quite cafe while waiting for my boyfriend, when suddenly a group of people came and start ruining my peace time, with laughing and acting like a bunch of idiots! i can't stand when people laugh too hard in a small room, especially when a girl did that. just hate it. i can't count how many times i jump a little hearing that annoying laugh. bah!

after for about 6 months of losing my faith in my camera, i finally found a little bit of hope and started to take pictures again. yesterday, while having beers and a night drive with my boyfriend, i took some pictures for my deux blog. from there on i found once again the magic of hitting that shutter button.

i havent really post any picture of me this year, i feel too self conscious. thanks to my brother who help me with the pictures above, i can finally post it :) (talking about narcissistic lol)

he premiered his new short film titled "i'm here" at the sundance film festival.

and to accompany the launch, a book was published by some zurich-based publishing.

Hi..how's your day people..i hope t'was awesome..mine? it was wonderful..it was kinda rocky at the beginning of my day, to tell you the truth..but with just communication and effort, it turned out great..

so yeah, we had a barbeque for my aunt and unc' farewell..the food was ok..but it was the bond created, that made it totally full throttle awesomeness..yes the oldies and the youngster separated in groups..the oldies stayed in the dining room with balloons, lights and aircons..but the youngsters or outsider you might say, we ate outside, side by side with the grill..but that what makes it awesome, we talked, cooked, drank lots and lots of beers, smoked, laughed and what not..we even ended up taking all the balloons from the dining room and decided to healed the helium in most of the balloons..you know, like in the movies, to make a chipmunk voice sound effect..and it worked brilliantly..it was the highlight of our day..

after the party, me, boyfie, sis and bro, decided to drive around a bit and drink some more..we went to my boy's store and talked some heavy shit in there..it was my drunk sister who cant stop yapping, who's initiate all the subjects from politics, art to the art of politics..it was heaps of fun..

i wish you guys can have a barbeque party with me and my fam, you might need some alcohol first tho' if you're meeting my fam, cuz maaaan, they're crazy..hehe

well it's 4 am now..and i'm a bit sleepy..
